Plaque and Traditions – Maintains IFC traditions and prepares awards for contests.Athletic – Coordinates all INC competition and athletic events.Alumni – Maintains house-to-house contact and head of the Alumni IFC.Activities – In charge of supervising and coordinating IFC activities such as fund raising, sports, and lectures.In addition to the Executive Council, the ten committees were: There were ten committees of the IFC, each of which was headed by one person from each house. Each house president represented their respective house on the IFC. Each member of the ten fraternities was automatically a member of the IFC. All ten fraternities were represented in the IFC: Alpha Sigma Phi, Beta Theta Pi, Chi Phi, Chi Psi, Delta Tau Delta, Phi Sigma Kappa, Pi Lambda Phi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Theta Xi. In Fall of 1969, there were over four hundred members of the IFC. The Interfraternity Council was one of the largest organizations on campus during the 1960s and 1970s. This day long Christmas party involved cartoons, films, lunch, magic shows, and of course an appearance by Santa Claus. To wrap up this eventful semester, the Delts held their annual Benefit Christmas Party for underprivileged children. As the champs of the IFC All-Sports Trophy, Delts reigned above other houses in the world of Greek sports such as ping-pong, volleyball, football, and water polo. The brothers of Delta Tau Delta were quite the athletes at this time as well. This exclusive club within the fraternity held events such as Family Day and an annual Barn Dance. Maia Rowland cooked daily for the brothers and for all of their special events, such as the meetings of the Delta Tau Delta Mothers and Wives Club. It is otherwise known as the Leavitt Mansion.ĭelt’s house chef was rated as the top chef on campus by the local Jersey Journal. 809 CPT boasts the title of the largest residential structure in Hoboken. As one of the largest fraternities on campus with 38 members, Delt occupied 809 Castle Point Terrace. Delta Tau Delta Happenings of Fall 1977ĭelta Tau Delta, one of the 10 Greek houses on campus in the fall of 1977 had an eventful semester. Lastly, the Delt brothers recognized that the house must adjustment with changing times and people. Hazing would result in the house being brought to court for legal and civil actions.
Also, New Jersey State law outlawed hazing. The Delts were drawn to write up this policy because hazing is completely inconsistent with fraternity ideals. A new pledge program was instantly introduced by the Pledge Educators. Dean Everson and Faculty Advisor Dick Widdicombe attended the meeting as well. The vote by brothers was unanimous for the anti-hazing amendments. Each pledge and brother had to sign a policy that “he would not perform any acts of hazing against any member of the house, nor would he tolerate any act of hazing by anyone outside the house.” The final statement is in reference to alumni chapter members who have not signed the policy. A formal anti-hazing policy has been written up by pledges and brothers. The Rho chapter has never had a hazing problem before, yet has made the brotherhood decision to abolish hazing as part of the pledge or brotherhood process on March 18, 1982. Delta Tau Delta is making history on Stevens campus.
